Banana bread is a staple in our house! A homemade breakfast that is easy to whip up and provides a wholesome option to start my kids day is a mom win! If your kids are like mine, some weeks we plow through a bunch of bananas and some weeks they sit and get brown and mushy. Perfect for a quick loaf of banana bread!

Nutella is so yummy, creamy chocolate and hazelnut! Any nutella recipe is always a welcome treat! Swirled into this moist, sweet banana bread….it is a match made in heaven!

My secret ingredient in this recipe is a touch of sour cream. Sour cream adds a rich flavor to the bread without adding too much fat. The acidity balances the sweetness of the bananas for a complex flavor. The end result is a moist bread with amazing texture.

Use really ripe bananas, the browner the better. Adding more than 3 mashed bananas however, will not improve your banana bread. Too much bananas will impact the texture of your bread, making it too heavy and damp. Bananas freeze really well. If I have an abundance of brown bananas, I peel them, double wrap in two resealable bags and freeze in batches of 2 or 3.

Allow the bread to cool for about 15 minutes and remove from the pan to allow to cool completely. Allowing the bread to cool too long in the pan can result in a soggy bottom. Cooling completely prior to cutting firms up the structure and ensures cleaner slices.

Warming the Nutella prior to swirling into the batter will help it to incorporate more easily and prevent large lumps of Nutella in the loaf of bread. Add half the batter to the pan, swirl in half the Nutella and then repeat the process with the remaining batter to ensure a good consistent swirl through the bread.

Ingredients

  • ½ Cup Butter Softened
  • ½ Cup Sugar
  • ½ Cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 TSP Vanilla Extract
  • ½ Cup Sour Cream
  • ¼ Cup Milk
  • 3 Mashed Bananas Over-ripe
  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 1 TSP Baking Soda
  • ½ TSP Salt
  • ¾ Cup Nutella Warmed

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a standard loaf pan and set aside.
  • Mash bananas and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt and whisk together. Set aside.
  • In a stand mixer or large mixing bowl combine butter and sugars and beat together until creamy.
  • Add eggs one at a time and whip until light and fluffy.
  • Add sour cream, milk, and vanilla. Mix until incorporated, scraping down the sides of the bowl.
  • Add in bananas, mix together and scrape down sides of the bowl.
  • Add in dry ingredients ½ cup at a time. Mix until just incorporated. Continue until all ingredients are combined.
  • Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Warm Nutella until pliable. Dollop half of the Nutella on top of the batter. Using a knife, swirl the Nutella into the batter.
  • Add the remaining half of the batter and top with the remaining Nutella. Swirl the Nutella and banana bread batter together.
  • Bake at 350°F for 55 minutes. Test every 5 minutes with a toothpick until it comes out mostly clean.
  • Allow to cool for about 15 minutes and remove from the pan. Transfer to a wire rack to allow to cool completely. Slice and serve.

Eat well. Live fully. Bake.
